Cabinet of Curiosities

Cabinets of curiosities were encyclopedic collections of objects whose categorical boundaries were, in Renaissance Europe, yet to be defined.

What have you learnt over the last two terms? What new skills have you already developed?

Over the last two terms I feel as if that I have learnt many things, for example, I know the line between melodramatic and natural which I think is very important. Being natural in a play isn't quite natural because there are skills you need to use which you wouldn't use naturally, for example, a stage whisper. This is what makes it so hard to not force yourself into melodrama, therefore learning how to maintain your natural state is very important. Most importantly, I feel that developing your own character was a skill that I am grateful for learning early on because it has made every process much easier.

What is theatre?

In my opinion theatre isn't a deep portrayal of someone's entertainment ideologies or someone's overly thought out explanation on why we like to watch plays. For me, it is simply life itself. I believe that theatre is simply an action and like every action there needs to be a reaction or it isn't an action at all, in my opinion. I believe that theatre is based off the fact that every person goes through billions of scenarios on a daily basis and many of these are portrayed into theatre and movie scripts or any other type of performance. I believe that all types of performance are based on someones life experience or someone's belief that occurs on a daily basis. Even pieces produced in experimental theatre are based off of someone's own personal experience whether it really did happen or not they are based off things many can relate to which is why I believe that theatre is life because that's the reason why it is so popular.
